Volume 3, Number 1
We look forward to meeting some of you at the upcoming 2010 Distributech conference in Tampa, Florida. (March 23-25, ASAT booth #2002).

Since our DAPmini launch at the 2008 Distributech conference in Tampa, we have successfully deployed the DAPmini to enhance the D20 installed base at utilities in North America as well as other utilities in Asia and Latin America. The common challenges the DAPmini addresses for the D20 users are:

Getting more out of the existing D20 RTU:

DAPmini enables Serial to IP network connectivity

Secure remote access to Wesmaint

Additional serial ports and LAN ports

DAPmini enables Smart Substation applications such as:

DAPguard - Substation security application for NERC CIP requirement

DAPview - Integrated HMI for local and secure remote access

DAPgateway – Integration of IEC 61850 devices with existing substation devices

The DAPmini is designed as a simple plug-in, add on module to enhance the D20 RTU without major hardware and firmware upgrades. This has resulted in significant savings to the utility engineering, design, testing and commissioning time.

To further improve on the ease of use and eliminate data entry errors, we are introducing our DAPstudio Auto-config tool to automatically import the D20 configuration file to the DAPmini database. This Auto-config tool will eliminate the manual process of entering the D20 database into the DAPmini database. Please refer to below for more details.

ASAT Introduces a New Software Tool to Reduce Engineering Time & Costs

For many power system operators, applying new technologies to meet new requirements is always a major challenge. The two major factors when applying new technologies are ensuring the new technologies will work with the existing equipment and the enormous amount of system integration time required.

To address these challenges, ASAT introduces a new DAPstudio software tool that reduces the complexity and costly upgrade of D20 RTUs. DAPstudio software enables D20 RTU users to import D20 configuration files as IED templates, as well as to easily create client applications for D20 interfaces. We are currently working on extending this feature for SEL relays.

Whether you need to upgrade your D20 from serial to IP communication, add cyber security features to be NERC CIP compliant, add local or remote HMIs to substations, or provide secure remote access for engineering and maintenance, the D20 configuration import feature reduces engineering time, resources, and costs by at least 80%.
