Rethinking
Your Substation Risk
In our discussions with various
utilities globally regarding the topic of Risk Management at
the substation, the general theme is around three categories:
- Aging substation assets –
how can we improve on monitoring the condition of the critical
assets at the substation? Are we getting the right data into
our risk-monitoring system? Do we know what to do with the
data?
- Cyber security – what
information are we trying to protect? Do we have secure remote
access to the substation information? What do we need to implement
to facilitate security compliance to NERC CIP requirement?
- New and legacy equipment must
work together – A forklift replacement approach may
not be cost justified, how can we upgrade our D20 RTU from
serial to IP network based? How can we expand our substation
and leverage the new IEC 61850 technologies? Is there a roadmap
to migrate from a legacy substation to the Smart Substation?
If you are going through
the same assessment process or want to learn more about how
ASAT products address the above challenges, it would be our
pleasure to connect with you and discuss options. Please contact
us.

Projects & Highlights
ASAT
Solutions Inc. is working in partnership with Kuala Lumpur International
Airport (KLIA) to upgrade GE
D20 RTU's at
55 substations using ASAT DAPmini server. To further
improve its power system availability, reliability and security,
as well as to improve operation and maintenance
effectiveness, KLIA is upgrading its existing power substations
with the latest technologies.
"After extensive research, evaluation and site testing, KLIA
determined that DAPmini server is the
best fit solution for addressing our D20 upgrade requirements
including TCP/IP based communication, remote engineering access
(REA) for maintenance, and cyber security enhancement,”
said Mr. Rahmat Taib, Manager at KLIA. “We are excited to
deploy the DAPmini technologies to meet our current and
future challenges at KLIA." With over
25 million passengers annually, hotel and commercial complexes,
and a Formula 1 racing circuit, KLIA is a major hub of air travel
in the south-east Asia region. KLIA continues to enhance its infrastructure
to meet its growth challenges. To learn more about this project
and its applications please

Community
Service
As a part of the Community Service Program, the
ASAT team participated in the Operation Christmas Child program
at the Samaritan’s Purse Canada. On Wednesday, ASAT staff
spent the afternoon volunteering at the Samaritan’s Purse
facilities where we helped inspecting, sorting, and packing shoe
boxes that stuffed with toys, school supplies, and etc. We processed
approximately 2,000 gift boxes that will bring joy and excitement
to less fortunate children around the world this Christmas.
